Sheriff Gary Cutler was elected in November 2010 and has over 40 years of law enforcement experience, including roles at the Travis County and Williamson County Sheriff’s Offices, and the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission. He has 11 years of management and executive experience, overseeing approximately 350 staff at the Hays County Sheriff’s Office. A native Texan from Hutchins, Cutler graduated from Sam Houston State University in 1973 with a degree in Criminal Justice. His career began at the Travis County Sheriff’s Office in 1974, rising to Captain. He later served in major crime divisions in Williamson County and the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission before taking office in 2010.
